Compare the visible forms

PRINTED BLOCK LETTERS
Separated bodies
Independent letters carry the word.
CONNECTED CURSIVE
Joined bodies
A connecting stroke crosses between bodies.
PRINT INITIAL + CURSIVE
Mixed handwriting
Joined and separate forms share the same line.

What to inspect

Compare one word written in print and cursive. Identify which bodies change shape as well as which boundaries gain joins. Keep spaces between words visible in both versions.

Make the comparison

Print allows each body to start separately. Cursive carries some strokes into a neighboring body. Neither pattern by itself records writing speed; use a timed passage to compare your own pace.

Practice with a sample

Write “clear notes today” in separated print and then in cursive. Compare body height, space around ovals and word boundaries. Circle the pairs where a join changes the path most.
