HANDWRITING PRACTICE

How to write P

Learn the capital and small cursive P →

Capital P

  1. Start at the baseline and draw up the left stem to capital height.
  2. Continue right around the upper bowl and return to the stem at the middle; leave the lower half open.

Small p

  1. Draw the left stem from x-height down into the descender space.
  2. Lift the pen and draw one small bowl on the right, returning to the stem near the baseline.

Watch for this: A small p with no descender can resemble b. Keep the bowl between x-height and baseline, and extend the left stem below the baseline.

Write capital P

Make a tall upright and a single upper bowl returning to it near the middle.

Write lowercase p

Draw a stem from body height below the baseline, then place the bowl to its right above the line.

Keep the form distinct

Compare p with b: their bowls face right, but their stems extend in opposite vertical directions.

Practice p in words

Copy “page” and “paper”, leaving each letter separate. Circle the clearest p in the row and use its body size for your next attempt.
