HANDWRITING PRACTICE

How to write X

Start with a clear capital and small print form. Follow the ordered strokes, then copy the letter without tracing.

Learn the capital and small cursive X →

Capital X

  1. Draw the first diagonal from the upper left to the lower right.
  2. Lift the pen and draw the second diagonal from the upper right to the lower left, crossing the first near the center.

Small x

  1. Draw a diagonal from x-height on the left to the baseline on the right.
  2. Lift the pen immediately and draw the opposite diagonal from the upper right to the lower left.

Watch for this: Two diagonals that miss each other do not form a clear small x. Let the separate diagonals cross near the middle of the small-letter height.

Letter shapes, words and corrections

Write capital X

Cross one tall diagonal with another running in the opposite direction.

Write lowercase x

Cross two short diagonals within the body band.

Keep the form distinct

Keep four visible arms around the crossing so x does not resemble a single slash.

Practice x in words

Print practice: next and example.

Copy “next” and “example”, leaving each letter separate. Circle the clearest x in the row and use its body size for your next attempt.
