Learn the capital and small cursive H →

Capital H

  1. Draw the left stem down from capital height to the baseline, then lift and draw the right stem downward.
  2. Lift again and join the stems with a horizontal middle bar.

Small h

  1. Draw the tall left stem downward to the baseline.
  2. Lift the pen, start on the stem near x-height, rise into one rounded shoulder, and descend to the baseline on the right.

Watch for this: A left stem only as tall as the shoulder makes the small h resemble n. Raise the left stem to ascender height while keeping the shoulder at x-height.

Write capital H

Draw two tall upright stems and connect them with a horizontal bar.

Write lowercase h

Make one tall left stem, then a body-height shoulder descending to the baseline on the right.

Keep the form distinct

Compare h and n: h has a tall left stem; n begins at body height.

Practice h in words
