Handwriting pressure, stroke darkness and width
Handwriting pressure requires recorded force input. For a photo, inspect ink boundaries and separate pen-tip effects from paper indentations.
Reference, comparison & reading
Compare the visible forms
A narrow visible ink boundary.
A broad visible ink boundary.
Some sections are shown wider than others.
What to inspect
Compare matching downstrokes written with the same pen on the same paper. Mark their visible boundaries and note pale, dark, narrow or broad ink. Paper texture, ink flow and the pen tip can each change the mark.
Make the comparison
A broad nib can leave a wide dark stroke with a light touch. To compare physical force, use pressure readings from a suitable writing device and record the device’s units. A paper indentation is a separate surface observation.
Practice with a sample
Write “paper, light, down” twice with one pen. Circle three matching stems and compare their width at the same scale. Record darkness in a separate column so a wider mark does not become a force measurement.
