Learn the capital and small cursive R →

Capital R

  1. Start at the baseline, draw up the left stem, and continue around the upper bowl back to the middle of the stem.
  2. Lift the pen near the bowl's lower-right edge and draw the diagonal leg down to the baseline.

Small r

  1. Draw the short left stem downward from x-height to the baseline.
  2. Lift the pen and draw a short shoulder from the stem up and right, stopping before it becomes a full arch.

Watch for this: Carrying the shoulder down to the baseline makes the small r look like n. Keep the right-hand shoulder short and open, without a second full downstroke.
