Capital Z
- Draw the top bar from left to right at capital height.
- Continue diagonally down-left to the baseline, then turn right along the bottom bar.
Small z
- Draw a short top bar from left to right at x-height.
- Continue diagonally down-left to the baseline, then draw the bottom bar to the right.
Watch for this: Curving the middle and softening both corners makes the small z resemble s. Keep a straight diagonal between two horizontal bars with clear changes of direction.

Letter shapes, words and corrections
Write capital Z
Draw a top bar, a diagonal down to the lower left, and a bottom bar toward the right.
Write lowercase z
Use the same three-part zigzag within the body band.
Keep the form distinct
Compare z and 2: this z has straight bars and a diagonal rather than a curved top.
Practice z in words
Copy “zone” and “size”, leaving each letter separate. Circle the clearest z in the row and use its body size for your next attempt.
